WKCR Radio New York In Studio Visit with Taj Weekes

WKCR FM RADIO NEW YORK

Interview by: Carter Van Pelt

Taj Weekes visits WKCR Radio New York and speaks candidly with host Carter Van Pelt about songs from his latest album DEIDEM. Featured on the show are Angry Language, Since Cain, We Stand, Hollow Display, Louisiana and Dark Clouds.

Speaking about We Stand, Taj explains, "There's a vibe sometimes in the studio where everything just kind of line up. You almost feel like you're in the zone. And this is one of the particular songs in which I felt like we were in the zone. Everything kind of locked. We didn't have to do it too many times to get it right... I believe all the songs are already written. I just think it's the level of consciousness you bring in to it. I can't reinvent the wheel. Everything I say has already been said. All I do is say it in a different way for a different generation. So that is what I have to do - learn how to connect with the people who heard this but never heard it said my way... I think if you come to the studio with things engraved in stone, then it becomes more difficult... Sometimes you have to let things happen on the fly and then you get the greatest result."
