SHELTON GARNER
Lead and Acoustic Guitar, Backing Vocals
Raised in Brooklyn, NY, guitarist Shelton Garner's first influence was Jimi Hendrix. He began playing at the young age of 5. Shelton played a variety of instruments in his youth including drums and the saxophone. He turned his focus to the guitar in junior high school recognizing that he could speak through music and express his true feelings without words.
As a teenager at the Harlem School of the Arts, Shelton was exposed to a wide variety of music. He realized his connection to reggae music through Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. Shelton followed the live music of various black rock bands while playing the New York City club circuit, and is now discovering the works of the awesome John Coltrane.
With his versified style, Shelton has played with several bands including King Wes Posse, Sonny Boy (a funk rock band from the Mid West), Foula (a Haitian/Jazz funk band which took him to Berlin, Germany)...and Freedom (spoken word).
